It all began around the end of the 90's when Mr. Guy Michaud was confronted by a thorny health problem that became rapidly quite worrying. Cité Boomers CB :  Mr. Guy Michaud you are at the head of Genacol, an enterprise that knows a mega success worldwide. How did it all begin?

Guy Michaud, GM :  It all began when a friend of mine proposed liquid collagen which allowed me to correct the advanced deterioration of my knee ligaments in a record time of only three weeks. Yet at the beginning I was passably sceptical when it came to health products in general. But the fantastic results spoke for themselves.

Then I heard about this Research and Development enterprise from Varennes that discovered the virtues of collagen as a nutritional supplement at the beginning of the 80's. They were looking for a person as enthusiastic as me for having made this product my new passion after my spectacular healing.

CB :  Mr. Michaud, where did the name “Genacol” come from for this product?

GM :  Actually, I baptized my product simply Genacol® to easily memorize it since it's the word COLLAGEN written backwards. CB : But what is collagen exactly?

GM :  Collagen comes from the Latin words “colla” and “genmen”, which means to produce glue. By definition, collagen represents the glue of the body. Thereby, we could define the word collagen as being the glue that holds and shapes all the connective tissues in the body (bones, cartilages, muscles, tendons, ligaments, skin).

The connective tissues contain two fibrous proteins: collagen and elastin. These two proteins enable to give resistance and elasticity to the cartilages allowing these long fibres to combine themselves with proteoglycan molecules and to assemble themselves to form our system or cartilage matrix.

Not only is collagen naturally produced by the body but it is absolutely vital to our functioning since it is the “glue of our body” in a sense. CB : But wouldn't the body be able to heal itself?

GM :  Yes, of course the body has the capacity to heal itself but even if we eat healthy everything depends on our metabolism capacities. Many factors can also harm and even reduce the production. For example: tobacco abuse, important and regular alcohol and coffee consumption, to submit our organism to an intense stress or an extraneous physical training. CB : If I understand correctly collagen would be some sort of fountain of youth particularly for us boomers?

GM :  Yes and no. It is obvious that we all wish to look young and above all we want to feel young for as long as possible. Conscientious food supplement producers wishing to offer a high quality product are unfortunately very few.
